"Fight Ground Championships 3" set Feb. 18

- Lemuel P. Maglinte -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans will be treated to another explosive action with the staging of the third edition of the “Fight Ground Championships” on February 18 at Days Hotel in Brgy. Ibabao, Mandaue City.

Backfist Promotion president Joseph Lanoza said during a press conference yesterday at Chillout Restobar that they are planning to hold the event every quarter of the year.

“Himuon ta ni nga quarterly aron usab dili mablanko ang atong mga fighters ug aron dili mausik ilang training, ato silang paduwaon pirme,” said Lanoza.

After his impressive performance over the heavily-favored Mark ‘The Terminator’ Araneta during the Fight Ground 2 in November last year, former boxer-turned MMA fighter Romelo “Arcom” Espra will once again step into the ring to defend his featherweight title against Adly Zosa of Bullet Muay Thai stable.

In the other supporting bout, Johnjier ‘Dangerous’ Torbiso will take on Analito Siloy, while Cebuano Muay Thai champion Gino Po will make his MMA debut against a still undertermined foe.

Backfist Promotion commissioner and former MMA fighter Ali ‘The Grappler’ Malawi said they have not yet finalized the entire card but it will be a 12-pair showdown, all in MMA category.

“Amo ning gituyo nga MMA lang ug wala nay kickboxing event para di maglibog ang mga tawo ilabi na sa katong mga dili pa kaayo educated bahin sa MMA,” said Malawi. (FREEMAN)
