CEBU, Philippines -  Defending champion Pajo National High School trounced St. Theresa's College for its second straight victory in the 9th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Cebu eliminations yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

The Fr. Rey Manayon-mentored PNHS belles pummeled the Theresians in the first set, 25-6, before closing the match via a 25-16 decision.

Among those who figured prominently in PNHS' win were Gretchel Soltones, Lovely Marie Murillo, Denice Francesca Lim, June Mae Ares and Mariel Gornez.

“So far, the girls are doing well and great. We will do our very best to win all our games and hopefully make it to the national finals," said Manayon.

STC bounced back though with twin victories over Southwestern University, 25-21, 25-18 and Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus, 25-9, 25-16 behind the efforts of Angelica Dela Cruz, Pauline Ogapong, Megan Fadriga, Paula Maninang, Nedel Mausisa and Julia Garcia.

Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS), on the other hand, stretched its unbeaten streak to three after thrashing the University of Cebu, 25-14, 25-15, thanks to the sterling performances of Mary Dominque Pacres, Frances Macasero, Shemae Rubi and Jenny Mae Maglangit.

The champion in the week-long tournament will represent Cebu in the Shakey’s G-League National Finals on March 22-24 in Davao City. –(FREEMAN)
