CEBU, Philippines - Another FIDE-rated tournament will take place in this portion of the archipelago with the staging of the Cebu City Chess Classic slated from December 20 to 23 at the E-Mall Activity Center.
The 7-round Swiss system tilt is open to all rated and unrated players.
“We expect increased participation from the students’ populace. Hopefully, we will draw more participants from outside Cebu,” said tournament manager Roger Abella.
Organized by the Cebu Chess Association in partnership with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and the city government of Cebu, the champion will receive P25, 000, the second and third will pocket P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
The fourth and fifth will receive P5,000 and P3,000, while the sixth to 12th finishers will get a consolation prize of P1,000 each.
Special prizes will also be given away to the top performers in the ladies and kiddies divisions.
One may register onsite on December 20 from 9 am to 12nn.
Registration forms are available at the Colonnade Chess Club and at the Deep Blue D' Woodpushers Coffee in SM City-Cebu.
Entry fee is pegged at P100 for the ladies and kiddies, P200 for students and P300 for the rest of the players.
