He's back

The two-year wait is over for the fans of Tiger Woods. To be exact it is two years and three weeks as the former world number 1 golfer was winless for a total of 107 weeks before the Chevron World Challenge last weekend.

His birdie-birdie finish put him one ahead of Zach Johnson. Though the tournament only had a field of 18 players, this does not diminish the quality of the event, which is an elite-level invitational.

So, is Tiger really back? I surely hope so as it make waking up early to watch golf more fun.

I’m sure one of my buddies thinks otherwise. It doesn’t make us lesser friends though that he hates my favorite golfer. This is because I hate his favorite NBA team, which makes us even.

A testimonial golf tournament is scheduled to tee off this 11 a.m. in honor of the retiring Maj. Gen. Jesus Fajardo.

I was informed about the event yesterday by the public information officer of the 2nd Air Division.

Tomorrow, Gen. Fajardo of PMA class 1978 will have his champagne flight, which is a retiring officer’s last time to fly his aircraft.

These are two good reasons to head to the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base particularly the Mactan Island Golf Club, which is also holding its year-end tournament this Saturday.

I am looking forward to a very busy weekend with the Christmas Fun Golf Classic taking place at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

As a member of the club’s tournament committee and the designated emcee of the major tournaments, I usually spend many hours at the golf club on tournament weekends.

I was told yesterday during a side trip to the club that there are still slots available for this weekend’s event particularly on Saturday.

Entry fee is only P2,700 and all participants will be getting a specially-made Alta Vista belt, as well as a shirt, cap, mug, and towel with the club logo.

There are many other items as giveaways and all will also get something in the minor raffles.

I was also reminded yesterday that there are two par-3s that will have special holes. At stake on holes No. 2 and 13 will be cash of P100,000, first bet coupons worth P400,000 from Pagcor Cebu and Mactan, and a motorcycle.

There are also a Kia Picanto, a residential lot from Sta. Lucia, a Club Car golf cart, a trip from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, and hotel accommodation from Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

If you haven’t decided to play yet, you have only a few days to decide.

There are of course many major raffle items also that will be given away during the awards ceremony on Sunday.
