Alta Vista reigns in Davao
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Alta Vista Golf and Country Club bagged all team titles in the Santa Lucia Inter-club Golf Tournament played at the Rancho Palos Verdes here.
The tournament is this year’s version of the annual event exclusive for members of golf clubs developed by Santa Lucia Realty and Development Inc.
Alta Vista topped group 1 with team Rerax running aways with the title. The team composed of Enrico Solon, Andrew Ahn, Marvin Mendoza, and Jun Zambo fired rounds of 140 and 139 points in the four-to-play, three-to-count format using the Molave points system.
The team took a commanding 14-point lead after the first round of the two-day event and coasted to an easy win.
First runner-up for the premiere handicap class went to Pomelo Verde A of the host club with a total of 263 points on rounds of 126 and 137 and edging teammate second runner-up Green Seeker in the countback.
Pomelo Verde A’s fourth man made 43 points while Green Seeker only had three players seeing action in the final round that gave their fourth man zero points.
In case of ties, the first basis for breaking it would be the score of the fourth player, who did not count for the team total.
In group 2, Alta Vista’s Los Guapitos looked very good with the championship trophy and their gold medals after squeaking past Hangal and Royal Trojans in the countback.
Los Guapitos was manned by Marlo Cugtas, Richard Lim, Rene Piano and Rolando Alberto. The team fired rounds of 123 and 129 for a total of 252 managing to protect their flimsy lead on the final day.
Second place went to Hangal of Eagle Ridge with a total of 251 points on rounds of 122 and 129 and edging Royal Trojans in the tie break as their fourth man scored 37 points.
Royal Trojans of Royal Tagaytay had rounds of 123 and 128 for 251 and their fourth man made only 19 points.
The group 3 title went to Alta Vista’s Hapakeros de Cebu with 190 points on rounds of 96 and 94. The team was manned by Allan Lua, Doli Cabahug, Nelson Rosales, and Jun Tolentino.
Second place went to BACR of Royal Tagaytay with 188 on rounds of 91 and 97. Third place went to D’ Builders of Palos Verdes with 162 on rounds of 81 and 81.
The title for the seniors’ class went to Japinos of Alta Vista via runaway fashion. The team scored a total of 262 points on rounds of 132 and 130. It was composed of Victor Gocela, Masahisa Kawakami, Victor Yuvallos, and Roy Damole.
Second place went to Young Once of Orchard with 213 on rounds of 112 and 101.
Individual Winners
Cebuanos Jufil Sato and Enrico Solon had a 1-2 finish in class A. Sato, however, played for Royal Tagaytay. He had a total of 103 points on rounds of 49 and 54. Solon made 93 (43-50) while third place went to Kyu Jung In with 89 (45-44).
For class B, Kang Ho Bong won a three-way battle for the title by virtue of having a superior second day score. He had a total of 96 and had rounds of 47 and 49. Second was Jaime Tan, Sr. with 96 (49-47) and third was Diemy Monedero also with 96 (50-46).
The class C champion was Norberto Badenas with 86 followed by Gilbert Ruetas 83 and Carmelo de Jesus 80.
Jun Yong Hea won the class D title with 67 while Lilibeth Crisologo made it 1-2 for the women with 66. Third place went to Guillermo telmo with 65.
It was an Alta Vista sweep in the seniors’ class. Masahisa Kawakami won the title with a two-day total of 93 followed by Victor Gocela with 86 and Roy Damole with 83. - THE FREEMAN
