CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) kicked off its title campaign with a 1-0 victory over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the under-23 division of the 14th Aboitiz Cup football tournament at the Aboitiz Sports field in Mandaue City yesterday.
Both squads displayed strong defense in the entire action, but a daring attempt by LJ Reyes in 83rd gave USPF the win.
The under-23 class is one of the new additions in the longest running football event in Cebu.
In the men’s open division, Queen City United-A and San Roque Arsenal beat separate opponents.
QCU-A silenced Don Bosco–Alumni B in convincing fashion, 6-0, while San Roque Arsenal streaked past San Roque Royale United, 3-2.–(FREEMAN)
