CEBU, Philippines - The 13-man Cebu Blue Marlins squad landed third overall after posting 1,885 points at the end of 13th Negros Oriental Governor’s Cup Age-Group Swimming Championships at the Governor Teves Memorial Aqua Center in Dumaguete City.
During the first day of action, coach Rolando Alvarez’s wards raked in 51 golds, 21 silvers and 11 bronzes including three golds in the relay.
The following day, CBM, which is composed of swimmers from different schools in Cebu, continued to pounce on and grab more medals through the 4x100m freestyle relay open in boys and girls divisions.
From the University of Cebu, Beth May Arellano collected a total of 10 golds and two silvers as Trina Cañeda bagged two golds, five silvers and four bronzes while Romylin Ignacio got nine golds and two silvers.
UC’s boys division bets also made valuable contributions with Michael Ichiro Kong seizing 11 golds and two silvers, Robin Jacobsen with five golds and six silvers, Israel Gabunada with five golds and five silvers and Matthew Angelo Vega with a bronze.
University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Annita Monterola, on the other hand, handed a total of four golds, six silvers and a bronze.
University of San Carlos-South’s Razel Cabajar ended up with six golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
Maternelle Academy’s Rafael Dacaldacal also made waves after taking away six golds.Cambridge International School’s Justine Garrido like Dacaldacal sealed his bid with six golds.
CBM also saw seven of its bets named into the top 3 list of the Most Outstanding Swimmers with Arellano, Ignacio, and Indaya occupying the girls 11-above category and Kong and Jakobsen in the boys side.
Dacaldacal and Garrido, for their part, were the two best novice class swimmers. - (THE FREEMAN)
