Dalaguete, Oslob top Cluster II in GUV Cup v'ball
CEBU, Philippines - Dalaguete and Oslob drubbed their respective foes to occupy the top two spots in Cluster II of the 7th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup yesterday at the Dalaguete Sports Complex.
Dalaguete clinched the top spot with a clean 4-0 slate behind the exemplary performances of the Belandres sisters Queenly and Arriane, both Garbo sa GUV Cup awardees who are now playing for the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).
Dalaguete fended off defending champion Alcoy in three straights, 25-25, 17-25, 25-17 and Samboan, 25-20, 28-25, 25-18. They later clobbered Santander, 25-17, 25-9 and Ginatilan, 25-10, 27-25.
Banking on their skilled imports Jennielou Fern Villeguez and Cherrie Lou Paden of USPF, Oslob occupied the second spot with a 3-0 record.
Oslob beat Ginatilan, 25-9, 23-25, 25-13 and Santander, 25-8, 22-25, 25-8, before clobbering Boljoon, 25-7, 25-8. (FREEMAN)
