Queen City seeks redemption in UFL today

-

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu’s Queen City United Football Club seeks redemption today as it battles Stallions FC in the United Football League Cup at the Rizal Memorial Field in Manila.

The game, which kicks off at 2 p.m. will be aired live over AKTV channel 13.

QCU lost it first match last Sunday to Global FC, 0-3, at the Alabang Country Club field.

Raffy Musni, team representative of QCU, told The Freeman yesterday that the team has high hopes for today’s game.

QCU left last night for Manila.

Musni said that the Rizal Memorial has a very good field. Which would help a lot in terms of executing the plays that were practiced under coach Mario Ceniza.

Stallions FC, which is a Manila-based team composed of players from Barotac, Iloilo as a slew of Koreans, won the opening match of the tournament over the fancied Global FC, 3-2.

The team, however, lost its second game last weekend to Pachanga FC of Bacolod, 0-2.

QCU is now at the bottom of Group C and needs to win its succeeding games to make sure that it gets through to the round of 16.

Only the top two teams per group would make it to the next stage.

At 4 p.m. today, it will be a battle between the Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Navy also at Rizal Memorial.

This is a game pitting the top two teams of Group E. The Navy team currently leads the group with three points and a plus nine goal difference after trashing Manila All-Japan FC, 9-0, last October 16 at the Nomads Sports Club.

The PAF Phoenix FC won its first assignment, 4-1, against Laos FC at the University of Makati Field.

The UFL is the country’s premiere league with members of the popular Philippine Azkals seeing action for the different teams.

The game between QCU and Pachanga, which was postponed since the UMAK Field was unplayable lat October 9, is set next Saturday, 2 p.m. also at the Rizal Memorial.

The Cebu Amateur Football Club, mother club of QCU, is however still hoping that the league would hold the game in Cebu instead of Manila. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
