Montealto scores abbreviated win

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Talamban’s Ritchie Montealto only used three rounds to defeat Elemar Barral of Camotes Island in the October edition of the 3rd Mayor Jonas C. Cortes Boxing at the Park Amateur Boxing Series at the Mandaue Plaza Square over the weekend.

Montealto was too much for Barral in the 52 kgs. class and claimed the shortest victory of the event.

Barral’s teammate, Mardy Muana, however, made sure not to suffer the same fate by outsmarting one of the tried and tested amateur boxers here in Cebu, Dann Lou Codilla of the University of the Visayas in the 54 kgs. division.

Two other UV bets split their matches.

Rommel Tuñacao (35 kgs.) defeated Philippine Australian Boxing Club’s Raymond Rama while.

Robert Labanza (60 kgs.) lost his fight to Elmo Traya of Cabancalan NHS.

Five other Caban-calan bets won their respective bouts with 42 kgs. Polid Banal bouncing from his loss last week by silencing PABC’s Jeffrey Stella.

Another 42 kgs. entry, Bryan Remedio and 45 kgs. Jeramil Alcover both pulled 2-1 wins against Flores Boxing Club’s Melmark Dignos and Don Gerardo NHS’s Bryan Paden, respec-tively.

Cherwellan Cantel (52 kgs.) and Jimboy Mayang (53 kgs.) won against boxers from Cabancalan with Cantel winning against Raul Yu and Mayang over Ferdie San Roque.

JK Candia (40 kgs.), another boxer from Cabancalan failed to sustain the momentum and lost to FBC’s Jun Nunez.

PABC’s Edu Rosal and Bacolod’s Rey Morales complete the winners’ circle after Rosal beat FBC’s Joselito Hibaya in the 51 kgs. class while Morales beat Maramag’s Rolando Lingao-Lingao. – (FREEMAN)
