FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Queen City United Football Club stumbled in its first game for the United Football League (UFL) Cup last Sunday.

The 3-0 beating that the Cebuanos got from Global FC and the 2-0 loss of opening day winner Stallions to Pachanga FC put the Cebuanos at the bottom of Group C.

Of course, that does not mean the end of the line as there are two more games to play for QCU, which are scheduled for the next two Saturdays.

This Saturday, QCU will face Stallions FC at the Rizal Memorial Field in Manila. The game is set at 2 p.m.

It was announced that only the Saturday games are going to be aired over AKTV, so we look forward to watching this one.

The game against Pachanga FC, which was originally set last October 9, but cancelled due to the unplayable conditions of the University of Makati Field, has been set for October 29, 2 p.m. also at Rizal Memorial.

There was a suggestion from the organizers that the game can be played in Cebu to compensate for the expenses incurred by QCU when it went to Manila the other weekend for nothing.

We’re still waiting for word about this, but one thing is definite, the UFL has slowly captured the attention of many football loving Filipinos.

I was sent to copy of the results of the Consolacion Fiesta Football Cup and am happy to see that my old team, the Dads United beating XP for the title in the 38-above category.

The lone goal in the final was made by Renato Yap, who I also played with a long time ago for another team.

From our original group, only Vince Nery and Kengo Tanaka are still playing with the team.

The original Dads United squad was organized at the old Sacred Heart School-Jesuit Field at the Cebu Business Park and was composed of parents of the players of the SHS-J Football Club.

Many of the people in the group never played football in the past, but we had a lot of fun playing and showing our kids that their dads were also able to play the game that they were enjoying.

I miss those days when afternoons were spent at the football field and the kids were still so small.

As the years have passed, many of our kids are not anymore playing football and many of the dads have also given up hope in the game or maybe accepted reality that the mind is willing, but the body refuses to obey.
