Cebu bets shine in Manila dance tilt

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City dance athletes achieved their target of sweeping 14 golds in the final swing of the three-leg 15th National Dancesport Championships the other day at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The newly-wed Charlea and Ronnie Vergara became the proverbial icing on their victory cake as they bagged the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

The Vergaras had been undefeated in the premiere amateur Latin division in all three legs of this year’s action, paving the way for them to clinch such distinct honor.

It was actually a 1-3 finish for DTCC in the said event, with Anselmo Estillore and Mae Lozada winding up third.

DTCC got the amateur standard's gold courtesy of Bernie Tumarong and Miljane Camacho.The likes of Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda, Crispin Sato and Noelyn Pedrano, Filemon and Jhistine Glyde Baguio, and Jeffrey Benarao and Mae Paracuelles snared two golds each through the latin and modern standard discipline in their respective classes.

Aunzo and Cañeda in the youth A, Pedrano and Sato in the juvenile C, Benarao and Paracuelles in the youth C, and the Baguio siblings in the junior C.

Christopher Albert Corro and Hanna Jane Diluvio also showcased their wares with finesse on the way to grab a gold medal in grade C Latin category.

Bruce Ty and KI Tamura, for their part, won the special event 1 female of the modern standard class, while Jomanie Sison and Marilou Bulohan lorded it over in the senior C latin.

DTCC also hauled eight silvers and bronzes.

DTCC's silver medallists include Crispin Sato and Noelyn Pedrano in juvenile A latin, Ty and Tamura in grade D of modern standard, Samson Orlanes and Jessa Mae Briones in grade C latin, Lark Jabonero and Mary Ann Ferrer in special event male latin, Charlie Camacho and Marisse Santiago in senior latin, John Paul Mocorro and Therese Andre Quilaton in junior A latin, Roque and Rhea Marquez in youth A and Zjiane Troy and Zjiana Tracy Villarta in junior A modern standard class.

Those who produced bronze medals were Bjorn Torreon and Karla Fornolles (SE 1 female modern standard), Klien Jason and Kathleen Diluvio (junior C latin), Troy and Tracy Villarta (junior A latin), Dino Meras and Shirly Cheong (senior C latin), Marlon Aliño and Mint Lee (SE 1female) and Ricca Alix and Renante Saldua (grade B modern standard).
