Global FC drubs QCU, 3-0, in UFL
CEBU, Philippines - Queen City United Football Club of Cebu lost its first match in the United Football League (UFL) United Football Cup late yesterday afternoon at the Alabang Country Club field, 0-3 to Global FC.
Raffy Musni, team representative, told The FREEMAN that the team fought well despite having to deal with a rather slippery pitch.
Global FC, which has Cebuano Paolo Pascual as goalkeeper, went up 1-0 in the first half said Musni.
Glenn Quisido, president of the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC), the mother club of QCU, said that it was an error that allowed the goal.
The defense did not move when a Global player was obviously offside, but this wasn’t called by the linesman.
Trailing 1-0 going into the second half, the QCU midfield led by former national team member Rocky Garciano tried to make things happen, but fell short.
“We had some good chanes,” Musni said.
Global scored two more goals early in the second half to earn a full three points and bounce back from its opening day loss to the Stallions FC, which was still playing Pachanga FC as of presstime.
The Cebuanos were supposed to play their first game the other Sunday, but all games scheduled at the University of Makati Field were cancelled due to unplayable conditions.
Musni said that they haven’t been informed of the new schedule of that game yet.
On Saturday, QCU will be going up against Stallions FC needing to score a win to keep it chances of advancing to the round of 16 alive.
Only the top two teams per group will advance.
QCU, Musni said, practices every day from 6 to 8 a.m. at the Aboitiz Sports Field and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Paref-Springdale Field in Lahug.
Musni said that despite the loss, he believes that their team has a good chance in this tournament. - THE FREEMAN
