CEBU, Philippines - The Second Cong. Benhur Salimbangon Cup, a golf tournament for a cause, is set on Oct. 22 at the Mactan Island Golf Club (MIGC) in Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase, Lapu-Lapu City.
The tournament is co-sponsored by MIGC and Water Buffalo Golf Club. This second fund-raising tournament is Congressman Salimbangon’s way of soliciting financial assistance from his golfing buddies and benevolent friends.
More than 200 golfers from the different golf clubs in Cebu are expected to join the tournament for a cause. The scoring will be modified Stableford system in three divisions A, B, and C.
At stake are hole-in-one prizes of P100,000 cash and a Norkis motorbike for the four Par 3s. On hole No. 4 and hole No. 11, the hole-in-one prize is a motorbike courtesy of Norkis. On hole No. 8 and hole No. 15, the hole-in-one prize is P100,000 cash.
If there will be more than winner for the hole-in-one cash prize on the designated Par 3 holes, the prizes shall be shared equally by the winners. In case of the motorbike, the winners shall agree on how to share the prize.
Proceeds of the event tournament will go to the poorest of the poor, particularly those who live in the 21 islets of the 4th Congressional District of Cebu where Congressman Salimbangon is the representative.
The fourth district comprises Bogo city and the towns of Tabogon, Tabuelan, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Sta. Fe, Bantayan, and Madridejos. These 21 islets are easily hit by inclement weathers.
The fishermen, who live in these islets, are the most hardly hit by the climate change and economic downturn. In the first golf for a cause, the residents of these 21 islets received rice and goodies from Salimbangon. (FREEMAN)
