Smoking ban
The city’s plan to strictly implement the laws against public smoking is a very welcome development.
Many times, I have called the attention of people who smoke during sporting events without regard for the others inside the venue.
While some would immediately throw their cigarettes, many would insist to smoke.
The same goes for government officials who are invited to the opening or closing rites of sports events, you have to control the habit if you want to be a good example.
This October, which is also the cancer awareness month, let us do our share to care for others.

The kids of the Governor Gwendolyn Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup made a very good first impression last Saturday at the Cebu International Convention Center.
The opening game between Carcar City and Argao was not only entertaining, but also gave us an idea of what to expect in the coming years.
As a former volleyball player, I envy the kids at the opportunity given to them. Had this been around much earlier, maybe Cebu had developed more players that would don the nation’s colors in international events.
The action of the 7th season of the GUV Cup continues today and tomorrow in the southern town of Sibonga.
There will be games in the men, women, and elementary divisions.
Next weekend, the action moves elsewhere allowing more people to get a chance to see the games and develop interest on the sport.

I had an interesting chat over Facebook with designer Dexter Alazas yesterday as he brought up the idea of mixing sports and fashion in one event.
Dexter has this idea of tapping local athletes to don sports attires in a fashion event noting how the sportsworld has also become a major source of endorsers for various fashion brands.
I’m sure this will be an event that many would be interested to be part of.
With the ongoing games of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI), and the many other sporting events happening here, we have a big pool of talents that our friends from the fashion industry could choose from.
Sports is not anymore all brawn.
