Melendrez and co. triumph in Deep Blue chessfest
CEBU, Philippines - The triumvirate of lawyers Jongjong Melendrez and Ben Harayo along with Mark Alvarado topped the September edition of the Deep Blue D’ Woodpushers Chess Club Monthly Chess Team Tournament at SM-City Cebu the other day.
The trio, which comprised Team E, outsmarted Team D’s Jonathan Canque, Romeo Lumanog and Jefferson Lendio for the top spot.
Overall, Team E finished with 10.0 points followed by Team D with 8.5 points.
Team F composed of Manuel Abucay, Ding Piezas and Jun Pasion placed third with 7.5 points.
The board medallists include Maggi Dionson (board 1), John Vellarde (board 2) and Mark Alvarado (board 3). The three players had four points apiece.
The event was supported by Atty. Boy Tan, Edgar Hortellano, Marvin Guardiana, Nestor Encallado and Excel Canque.— (FREEMAN)
