CEBU, Philippines - Rey Morales, bidding to turn pro under the wings of ALA Boxing Gym, continued to make an impression after he punched his way to a 3-0 win over Japanese national Takaoki Noma in the 2011 Summit Natural Drinking Water Fight Night Amateur Series-September edition at the Gaisano Country Mall carpark.
A day after his victory in Danao, the 56 kgs. prospect from Bacolod City showed no signs of fatigue as he dominated Noma in all rounds. Morales is a Palarong Pambansa medallist.
Three other Negrense fighters won their respective bouts. 53 kgs. bet Juren Labordo defeated Tanke,Talisay’s Steven Noblefranca, 58 kgs. John Rey Melligen pulled off a 2-1 win over Eleno Traya of Cabancalan, while 55 kgs. JP Artieda outclassed Laboon, Mandaue’s Leo Rodrigo in 14 seconds of the third round.
Three combatants from the University of the Visayas (UV) also swept their assignments. 54 kgs. Dann Lou Codilla prevailed over Roger Mangyaw, 36 kgs. Janriel Jecong subdued John Lloyd Trasporte and 37 kgs. Rhezon Tarona overpowered Cedie Noblefranca of Tangke,Talisay.
It wasn’t a good day for Flores Boxing Club as only one of its entries emerged victorious courtesy of Welmark Dignos, who dumped Sanai’s Ronald Bongo in the 48 kgs. division.
Ramil Castañares silenced FBC’s Ariel Sibay in the 34 kg. class, while Sanai’s Margarito Moya defeated Melmark Dignos in the 44 kgs. division.
Consolacion’s Ritchie Montealto eked out a 2-1 win against Ferde San Roque, while Kevin Jake Cataraja silenced Richard Barrios, 3-0, in the other 50 kgs. duel. - (THE FREEMAN)
