14th Corn Tee opens at Club Filipino today

-

CEBU, Philippines - The 14th edition of Corn Tee opens today at the Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu course in Barangay Pulangyuta, Danao City with about 50 teams vying for the crown and for the P1 million hole-in-one prize.

The tournament, which is the club’s annual signature member-guest event, will be a four-man team competition running for four days. Each team shall be composed of one club member and three guests.

Joselito ‘Jiji’ Gullas, golf chairman of CFIC, said that since they would want to accommodate more guests, club members will be allowed to have more than one team.

This will be a 36-hole contest using the Modified Stableford Scoring System. The September 1 handicaps will be applied.

He explained that members, who will have more than one team, will only play two rounds during the four-day period, and the same score that he makes for one team will be added to his other teams.

Entry fee for the event has been pegged at P2,500 per player.

At stake for an ace is P1 million sponsored by Monterrazas de Cebu and Genvi Development Corporation.

A Skygo motorcycle is also on the line for an eagle on any of the par-4 holes.

In case more than one player will score an ace or an eagle, the prize will have to be equally shared.

The event backed by Duros, Cebu Mitsumi, and San-Vic Traders Inc. will have its awards ceremony on Saturday at the Pagcor Casino in Parkmall, Mandaue City.

Also supporting the event are Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Premier Business Inc., Gaisano Capital Danao, Bohol Beach Club, Amara, Bergamo, Ayala Land Inc., and Federal Land.

This has also been made possible with the backing of Air Busan, Rollway Freight and Shipping Corp., Profood International Corp., Allure Hotel Suites, Mayor Aljun Diamante of Tuburan, Cokaliong Shipping, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Phoenix Petroleum, Metro Shipping Agencies, and Pagcor.

This course in Danao City was built and designed by Peter ‘Maestro’ Chiongbian, who was tasked to find a new home for the club after its old course was sold by the Province of Cebu in 1990.

Carved on the mountains of Danao City, the course offers a great view and is considered as one of the most challenging in Cebu.
