CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) Jaguars chalked up their first victory via in impressive 80-69 decision over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the 11th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Jaguars, who snapped out of their three-game losing slide, showed their determination to barge into the win column as they never allowed the Wildcats to gain some breathing space. Instead, they coasted to their largest lead of 22 points, 78-56, in the final three minutes of the contest.
All of a sudden though, the Wildcats reduced the deficit by using a 13-2 scoring run but that was too late.
James Regalado, who was getting his teammates involved offensively with his nice assists, topscored for the Jaguars with 18 points followed by Jason Olbedado with 16 points. Jason Nudalo and Abulaiz Suliman had identical 11 points.
The Wildcats, who suffered their third loss, were led by consistent scorer Allan Dimco with 14 points while big man John Michael Graf added 11 markers.
In the opener, the UV Baby Lancers demolished the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 86-67 for their third straight win in a tie with Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagle, while the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves whipped the University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, 72-50, for their first victory in three games.
Reeve Ugsang led the Baby Lancers with 16 points even as three other teammates also finished in double figures.
