CEBU, Philippines - The 7th Cheling Garcia Memorial Tournament tees off on Saturday at the par-72 Cebu Country Club.
This is open exclusively to club members and invited guests only.
The tournament will follow the three-man scramble format and participants will be categorized into three groups.
Group J will be for teams with total handicaps of 30 to 49 strokes. Group E will be for those with totals of 50 to 60 and Group G for those teams with totals of 61 and up.
No team with a total handicap of less than 30 strokes will be allowed.
In order to get the team handicap for the tournament, the total handicap of the three members would be divided by six.
The tournament also requires that all three players would be hitting tee shots.
Teams must designate the person to hit tee shots from holes 1 to 6 then 7 to 12 and 13 to 18.
The two other team players will be allowed to hit tee shots only on par-3 holes for purpose of getting a chance to win the hole-in-one prize, which is a Suzuki Swift, is at stake on all par-3 holes.
Ties will be broken by virtue of the total age of the team members. The team with a higher age total will be declared the winner.
Since this is a scramble tournament, the player whose shot is picked will not be allowed to hit the next one.
The team members must place his ball within six inches from the chosen ball to hit the next shot.
Mulligans will be sold at P200 per player, but this can only be used for the tee shot.
Entry fee for event is pegged at P2,500 per player. Proceeds of this tournament would go to Societas Angeli Pacis.
Prizes at stake will be for the overall lowest net and the champion and runner-up team for the three categories.
Cheling Garcia is the father of club president Ramontio Garcia. Cheling used to be one of the stalwarts of the Cebu Country Club. - THE FREEMAN
