'Discabled'

Since my work requires that I stay in the office until the paper is put to bed, I am usually still up and about when I get home very late at night.

Since there are a lot of sports on TV late at night, I look forward to spending a few hours watching the games especially when there are big events or my favorite teams are playing.

Among my favorite teams in the English Premier League is Manchester United, so I was very happy to see that its game against Westbrom was aired live last Sunday.

That happy mood took a U-turn when around the 15 minute mark of the game the signal of SkyCable TV was suddenly gone. Then a few moments later it was back only to be gone again after a short while.

The signal came back for a few seconds and the score was tied at 1-all, but after ten seconds or maybe less it was gone again and I gave up hope.

The cable company recently installed boxes in our area. We never had these problems before the boxes were installed. It must be the price to pay for development, but it surely ruined my night.

It was a good thing that Man U won the match, 2-1. Or I would have felt even worse had they lost.

After five long years, I was at the Club Filipino course in Danao City again last Saturday to take part in the President’s Cup 2011, which was a three-man team event.

Each team was composed of a member and two guests. Our club member teammate was Jiji Gullas, who is currently the golf chairman of the club.

I brought my son along as the team’s third member hoping to get him to play in other courses outside of our home course.

The rain drenched us at the start of the round, but our flightmates Dr. Abel de Manuel, Paul Lopez, and Leonard ‘Yongi’ Lu did not seem a bit bothered by the downpour as they played quite well.

Yongi, a good old friend from college, did not seem to happy though, he was missing too many birdies and had to settle for pars hehehe…

I guess I will be playing in Danao more often now as this year’s edition of the Ateneo-La Salle Golf Classic will be held there on October 8.

There is also the Corn Tee on September 7 to 10 and another event in October that club president Boboy Durano plans to make quite interesting.

I would have wanted to claim I had the longest drive (driving from Minglanilla in the south to Danao in the north) until I saw Jun Zambo, who lives in Toledo City.

Well, driving that far isn’t really such a hassle as I also got to stop by Titay’s Liloan Rosquillos on the way back to the city.

MILESTONES: Belated birthday greetings to community editor Divine Sanchez-Ngujo, former Bogo Mayor and 4th District Congressman Celestino ‘Tining’ Martinez III, and Neil Acosta, who turned a year older last Monday.

The same goes to my cousin Sheree Gale Nillas and Walter Sandalo, Miss Portia Dacalos, Aquiles Zapanta, and Krystle Agbayani, who celebrated yesterday.

Today’s greetings go to Dr. Conrado ‘Junie’ Salonga, Maricel Alcordo-Merced, Don Hamac, Jaja Malonjao, and my compadre Neil Bravo and his daughter Jill.

Congratulations also to new parents Eric and Anne Ybarita. The same goes to Alvin and Iste Leopoldo.
