3-leg triathlon event in CV
CEBU, Philippines - With the aim of finding new talents at the same time forging closer ties among triathletes in this region, the Summit Natural Drinking Water’s Triathlon Team Championships is set to kick off on October 30 in Dauis, Bohol.
The event was formally launched yesterday at Laguna Garden at the Ayala Center-Cebu’s Terraces.
The inaugural staging features three legs. The other legs will be hosted by Oriental Negros and Cebu.
After the Bohol leg follows the one in Oriental Negros on November 27 and the third and final leg will be in Alegre Beach Resort on January 29.
“This is the first time that we are doing this kind of tournament. Hopefully we can get more athletes to join triathlon,” said event organizer Benjoe Gimenez.
Each team could either be all male, all-female or mixed. No limit for the number of team members per team, but only four members to be counted for the team standing.
Each team can change members each leg, but they have to be pre-registered to be able to compete.
Aside from the team event, there will also be an individual competition, but no overall champion for the individual race.
The top three team champion in the three-leg series gets cash prizes while individual winners get cash prizes each leg.
The team champion will be determined based on points of each member in all three legs.
Aside from that, there will also be two side events, the oceanman and a team running event.
Mechanics of the two sidelights, however, is still being finalized as of presstime.
Before this event, however, close to 60 Cebuano triathletes will be seeing action in this year’s Cobra Ironman in Camsur on August 14.
Half of this year’s Cebu delegation will be first-timers.
Aside from the top spot for the different age groups, Cebuano triathletes also look forward to hopefully getting a slot to the Kona Ironman. (FREEMAN)
