Another separation for Tiger

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Many will be staying up until dawn Sunday to watch the first leg of the Philippines versus Kuwait World Cup qualifier.

The game this weekend will be hosted by Kuwait and is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. their time.

Due to the difference in the time zone, the match starts at around midnight here. It’s a good thing I’m used to staying up until early mornings and it will be easy to stay awake.

I am hoping that the Philippine Azkals can at least get a 0-0 draw against Kuwait heading to the second leg at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on the 28th.

It’s going to be tough, but we have to keep on believing.

After a much-publicized separation with his wife Elin Nordegren, Tiger Woods only recently also split with his caddie for 12 years, Steve Williams.

In that period, Williams carried Tiger’s bag for about 250 tournaments and the former world number one won 13 majors among his 72 wins.

Tiger’s life has been through lots of twists and turns for more than a year now since the infamous beating by a 9-iron that resulted to him driving his car into a tree.

Now divorced from his wife, losing at least four big sponsors, missing many tournaments due to injuries, changing his swing coach, and dropping to number 20 in the world, Woods seems to be trying to rebuild his life and career.

Tiger’s fans are still waiting for the time when he would come roaring back. I hope it will be soon and if he needs a caddie, I know many friends who’d be willing to carry his bag.

When Tiger broke into the professional scene, his caddie was Michael Thomas ‘Fluff’ Cowan.

Fluff carried Tiger’s bag until February 1999 when he was fired for an undisclosed reasons.

Williams took over from there.

After the weeks of talking about it, the Y101 Armscor Run is already happening this Sunday morning.

I’m sure many have signed up, but many of the football fans might not be able to wake up very early to be at the Asiatown IT Park where the start/finish line is due to the game of the Azkals.

To all my friends at Y101 Martha Tuason, Joseph Stevens, Jack Jakosalem, my fraternity brother Jiggy Junior, John M, Chassy Cortes, Charito, Mike Olitres, and those I forgot to mention, keep on promoting sports events.

I’ll try to drag myself out of bed after the Philippines-Kuwait game to be there.
