Cortes, Solatorio shine in Mandaue shooting contest

CEBU, Philippines - Kevin Cortes and Lyndon Solatorio led the winners of the 2nd Mayor Jonas Cortes Cup Shooting Tournament IPSC division held over the weekend at the NS Outdoor Firing Range in Tawason, Mandaue City.

Junior shooter Cortes won the title for the standard division. He is also currently ranked as the top junior shooter of the country.

Second place for the category went to Keith Siao and rounding up the top five were Arestil Famor, Solatorio, and Benson Yu.

Solatorio was the best for the standard single stack class followed by Renato Dugan, Giovanni Trinidad, Mario Abrenica, and Domingo Javier at second to fifth places respectively.

Sherwin Tan Unkheng won the title for the junior’s division while Roger Uy was the winner of the seniors’ class and Gina Gacho the ladies’ title.

Results of the tournament were relayed to The FREEMAN by organizer Lowell Belarmino, who is also the assistant coordinator for Area-8 of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA).

In the production division, Keith Andaya won the title with Precioso Canonigo taking second, Troy John Palomaria third, Dennis Panganiban fourth, and Ricardo Bono fifth.

In the Open division, Cesar Ting won the title with Saldie Tan Unkheng on second and third place went to Achilles Abella.

Martin Belarmino was the junior champion for the production class while Tan Unkheng was best among the shooters aged 21 years old and below for the open category.

Dennis Panganiban was the seniors’ champion for the production division and the distaff side was ruled by Maggie Quiseo. The winner for the ladies’ division of the open class was Marlene Efferberger.

Cris Panes topped the revolver category with Ismael Trinidad taking second and Eric Ayag was third.

In the Range Officers’ match, Chito Hernandez was the champion while Rolando Tocle was second.

Belarmino also said that Keith Anadaya was also the champion for the lawman category of the production class.

Solatorio also brought home the trophies for standard and single stack categories of the lawman class. - (THE FREEMAN)
