Aldeguer: It's not Victor Proa
CEBU, Philippines - ALA Promotions has denied reports that a Mexican named Victor Proa will be the opponent of ALA mainstay AJ "Bazooka" Banal in the seventh installment of the highly successful "Pinoy Pride" series at the Hoopsdome in Lapu-lapu City.
In an email sent to The Freeman, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said he was surprised to read the articles published by other newspaper and Internet sites stating that the former super flyweight contender Proa will be Banal's foe this July 30.
"I was surprised to read about the news regarding Banal fighting Proa. In fact, there was never any communication or negotiations with the Proa camp," said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer stated that they will announce the opponent of Banal this afternoon during the official Pinoy Pride 7 launching at the Savannah in Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Mactan Island.
"We are very excited about this event as this will be an event of firsts. This will be the first time we will be showcasing a major boxing event in Lapu-Lapu City and this will likewise be the first ever boxing event at the newly built and fully air conditioned Hoops Dome of the City of Lapu-Lapu." the ALA Promotions CEO added.
Banal who will put his WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title on the line is fresh from his impressive second round demolition against Tanzanian champion Francis Miyeyusho last March 19 in Pinoy Pride 4 held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. (FREEMAN)
