CEBU, Philippines - The 4th Amo Cup tees off today at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city with the action set to continue tomorrow.
The two-day 18-hole event has attracted close to 300 players and those who will decide on the last minute might still get accommodated depending on the availability of tee times.
Entry fee for the tournament is P1,000 for members of the host club while non-members will be assessed P2,000. Golf shirts as well as BHambi products will be given to all participants.
The tournament, which is held in honor of the late Albino ‘Amo’ D. Gothong, is chiefly backed by A.D. Gothong Manufacturing Corp., Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Gothong Southern Lines Inc., and Security Bank.
At stake for a hole-in-one are cars from Gateway Motors (Kia) Cebu and Hyundai Cebu.
Other hole-in-one prizes are a residential lot from Sta. Lucia Realty and Development Inc., a golf cart from Club Car, motorcycles from Norkis Trading and Skygo, and a trip to Dakak from Marist Royal Holiday Travel and Tours.
The prizes have been designated to specific holes, but the two motorcycles and the trip are up for grabs on all par-3s.
Also backing the tournament are Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp., Arthaland, and MAA General Assurance Inc.
At stake in the tournament will be trophies for the players with the lowest net and lowest gross and the lowest gross and top two for net in classes A, B, C, and Seniors.
The super seniors (65 years old and above) and the ladies classes will have trophies for the lowest gross and lowest net.
Players in the regular categories as well as the guests will tee off from the blue tees while the seniors will tee off from the white tees. Those who are playing in the super seniors and ladies classes will tee off from the red tees.
There will also be awards for the best dressed in green and the best dressed in yellow.
The lowest handicap of the participants for the period of April to June will be used. Guests will be required to submit a club certified handicap.
There will also be prizes for the nearest the pin on hole number 6 and the most accurate drive on hole number 11.
The awards ceremony will be held tomorrow evening at the AVTGCC ballroom. - (THE FREEMAN)
