Salientes, Tamala top Lapu-Lapu chessfest
CEBU, Philippines - Third seeded Allan Salientes and Judy Tamala bagged the championship titles in their respective Men’s Open brackets in the recently concluded Lapu-Lapu City Charter Day Chess Tournament in Lapu-Lapu City.
Salientes accumulated four and a half points in the tournament to secure the top position in the Men’s A class.
Ramil Resuera got the second post with four points, Lemuel Montero and Allan Pason got the second and third slots, respectively with identical three and a half points while top seeded player Peterson Sia finished fifth with three points.
In the Men’s B category, on the other hand, Tamala had identical points with second placer Dan Beltran. However they differ in the number of Buccholz, Tamala got 15 and a half while Beltran had 14 points.
Completing the top five finishers were Diomedes Gillo-ano, Rolando Torres and Django Torres, respectively.
Seeded number five player and Milo Little Olympics Most Outstanding Athlete Vic Glysen Derotas made her presence felt after topping the 12-under division.
Jeffu Dorog, Ryan Pacris, Ryan Fernando and Jasper Ycong occupied the rest of the top five places.
Meanwhile, Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano reigned supreme in the 15-under class with the Claro siblings, Diego and Jethro, occupied the second and third places, respectively.
Allan Pason got the fourth place, Neil Gilig in the fifth while top seeded player Ariel Abellana dropped to the sixth place.
The said tournament was sponsored by Councilor Harry Radaza, City Government of Lapu-Lapu and Mayor Paz Radaza.
It was organized by the Mactan Island Chess Association (MICA) with FA Felix Poloyapoy Jr., Rene Romero and Aldwin Daculan as the arbiters. – (FREEMAN)
