Cebu City Masters chess tourney on today

CEBU, Philippines - IM Enrico Sevillano banners the list of top-rated players that will see action in the Cebu City Masters Chess Championship starting today at the Deep Blue Chess Club at SM City-Cebu.

The other stars to watch for include IM Steven Kim Yap, NM Eric Gloria, FIDE Master Anthony Makinano and NM Merben Roque.

They will be joined by the top four finishers of the qualifying phase held the other day at the OPASCOR building. They are Eden Diano, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Richard Natividad and Rommel Ganzon.

The 10 players will duke it out in a single round robin format with.

“The public is invited to witness the battle of the kings game among Cebuano heavyweights,” said tournament manager Roger Abella.

Organized by the Cebu Chess Federation in collaboration with the Cebu City government, the champion will take home P10,000, while the second and third will pocket P5,000 and P3,000, respectively. The fourth placer will get P2,000, while the fifth to 10 will receive 1,000 each. – THE FREEMAN
