CEBU, Philippines - Mary Joy Tabal and her running partner Philip Duenas dominated the symbolic 16-kilometer race of the Kapamilya Run starting and ending at the Asiatown I.T. Park in Brgy. Apas yesterday.
Tabal took the top honors in the women’s division of the event, which was among the highlights of DYAB’s 16th year anniversary.
Tabal finished the race in one hour, six minutes and 3.78 seconds. Christy Sevilleno-Tutor placed second in 1:14:07.86, while Marichu Luterte settled for third in 1:19:59.76.
While Tabal cruised to victory with ease, Duenas has a difficult time against Adonis Singson before lording it over in the men's category.
Duenas clocked in 56:53.03, just four seconds ahead of Singson. Jobert Carolino emerged as the third placer with the time of 58:07.55.
In the women's 5K, little-known Jojielyn Mae Pepito got the surprise of everyone as she edged out early favorite Crizel Diongson to take home the title with the time of 20:54.11. Diongson posted 23:04.92 as Cherry Andrin went away with the third place honors in 23:46.86.
In the men’s side, Jorry Ycong clinched the crown in 17:26.88 followed by Michael Estrera in 17:28.43 and Harold Estrada in 18:011.78.
Youngsters also had fun in the race handled back by Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts(SAFE) with Mary Joy Loberanis and Kenneth Arnaiz topping their respective classes.
Loberanis completed the 3K action in 13:05.49 followed by Leslie Joyce Homecillo (13:44.44) and Samantha Joelle Astillero (17:54.14).
Arnaiz ruled the boys class in 13:03.85. The next two spots were occupied by Jose Marie Lauron in 13:41.61 and Dann Anthony Astillero in 15:50.40. –(FREEMAN)
