4th Amo Cup

Sunsport’s Andrew Choachuy, one of my fellow officers in the Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) called me yesterday, not about the sport that we are actively promoting, but to tell me that Wealth TV is also on Destiny Cable in Mandaue City.

Andrew said that he got to watch Full Point: The Cebu Sports Show.

Thanks a lot for the support!

The 4th Amo Cup set on June 25 and 26 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club is also open to non-members of the club.

Non-AVGCC members can contact 2727977 for registration and the tournament fee is pegged at P2,000. Club members will be assessed only P1,000 as entry fee.

The tournament committee met the other day at the club’s view lounge with no less than Bambi Gothong-Tan, daughter of the late Albino ‘Amo’ Gothong in attendance.

Since the tournament is in honor of Amo, who was a major sports patron during his time, members of his golfing family were also around like AVGCC directors Oly Dychangco, Ramon Sebastian, and Inting Go. Arturo Go, one of Amo’s favorite nephews was also on hand.

Gatherings like this always bring back memories of those meetings in the past when Amo was still around.

Tournaments that he organized were known to give very good items as giveaways to the participants. They were also known to offer wonderful raffle prizes that would make paying the entry fee very much worth it.

We’re trying to do the same things that Amo did in the past in the Amo Cup, but of course, it has never been the same since he passed on and left us with very huge shoes to fill.

The tournament next weekend, will be an 18-hole strokeplay event, but don’t take too long to decide to sign up and pay as the slots are limited.

As of noontime yesterday, I was informed that more than 100 have already signed up and we only are allocating a total of 250 slots for the tournament.

Other members of the committee present the other day were Engr. Willy T. Go, Lino Dagus, Bobby Barria, and Toby Florendo.

AVGCC has two major events every year – The View Invitational and the Christmas Fun Golf Classic. With the 4th Amo Cup, which is also expected to be very big, that makes it at least three events for 2011.

Putting the 4th Amo Cup together wasn’t as hard as expected due to several companies that have offered their support like Security Bank, Gothong Southern Transport Corp. and Gothong Lines. Of course AD Gothong Manufacturing Corp., owned by Amo’s family, is also there.

We have at least two cars at stake for a hole-in-one from Kia and Hyundai as well as a motorcycle from Norkis Trading, a trip from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, and a lot from Santa Lucia Realty.

This is definitely an event that you should not miss.
