Go-Cornelio duo rules View golfest

CEBU, Philippines - The tandem of Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and Oscar Cornelio led the winners of The View Invitational 2011 by taking the lowest net honors of the four-day tournament played at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.

The lowest gross honors went to the tandem of Enrico Solon and Clifford Celdran.

Go and Cornelio opened the tournament with a combined 69 points in their first day of event using the Modified Stableford Scoring System. The tandem picked up the pace in the second round shooting eight-under-par 80 points for a two-day total of 149.

Solon and Celdran made a combined 145 strokes for their first round and had 157 strokes on the second round to win the low gross title.

The class A plum went to the pair of Rolando Alberto and Wenceslao Romero firing rounds of 71 and 74 for a total of 145 points.

First runner-up was the tandem of Jack Chiu and Dominic Espinoza with 142 points on rounds of 81 and 61.

The second runner-up honors went to Ramon Sebastian and Pal Lomondaya with 139 points on rounds of 67 and 72 beating Rene Piano and Edsel Tan in the countback.

Since there were some guests, who did not have member partners, the committee members were randomly paired off with them. The committee member, who was picked as partner, was not however made eligible to win any prize.

The champion for class B was the pair of Solon and Henry Sen with rounds of 71 and 73 for a total of 144.

First runner-up was the tandem of Ramoncito ‘Dondon’ Arquiza and Jeffrey Sodusta with 136 on rounds of 63 and 73.

Jack Lee and Glenn Mayam took the second runner-up honors with 135 on rounds of 67 and 68.

Jimmy Tee and Paolo Alberto topped class C with 127 points on rounds of 70 and 57.

Second place for class C went to the team of Richard Tan and Danny Orbe with 124 (63-61) while that of committee member Rod Señido and George Yulo was third with 122 (56-66).

The seniors’ division was for teams with a total combined age of 120 years. Players must declare their ages before teeing off to be classified in this category.

The title went to the tandem of Chandran Rama and Allan Tuck with 141 points on rounds of 73 and 68.

Second place went to the team of Roy Damole and Rene Go with 126 (64-62) while third place went to Arturo Go and Pablo Soon with 122 (59-63).

A total of 198 teams took part in the tournament, which is the club’s annual member-guest event.   - (THE FREEMAN)
