MTI retains 14-under crown; San Carlos City's Los Amigos tops 12-under in National Inter-Club Football Cup
CEBU, Philippines- Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) retained its boys 14-under title after cruising past Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy, 1-0, yesterday in the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) 11th National Inter-club Football Cup at San Roque Parish field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Surprisingly, it was Mark Joseph Felicilda's ice-breaking goal with just five minutes gone by in the contest that lifted MTI of coach Jun Santillan to back-to-back championships.
ANS-Pomeroy tried hard to fire back but failed to score in the final half.
Felicilda's heroics earned him the coveted MVP honors.
Felicilda’s teammates John Dexter Espiritu and Clint Ligan got the golden boot and best defender awards, respectively.
ANS-Pomeroy though have something to be proud of as Patrick Polistico went home with the best goalkeeper award and Mark Joseph Aranguez got the best mid-fielder accolade.
ANS-Pomeroy hopes to bounce back in the boys 17-under where it takes on University of San Carlos-Technological Center in the finals today.
ANS-Pomeroy advanced after whipping Ormoc, 4-1, while USC-TC booked the other final ticket after defeating Manila Soccer Academy by the narrowest of margins, 10-9.
USC-TC and MSA were tied at 2-all at the end of the regulation period. They went scoreless in the extention resulting into a penalty shootout, which USC won by a hairline.
Over at PAREF-Springdale, Los Amigos of San Carlos City lorded it over in the boys 12 category after edging out host Springdale, 1-0.
At USC-TC, Hiroshi marched into the final round of the men's open after San Roque, 1-0. Hiroshi will face next either USC-TC or the Waterfresh-backed Queen City United (QCU)-A. (FREEMAN NEWS)
