Los Amigos, Aroroy barge in finals

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines -  Visiting teams Los Amigos of San Carlos City and Aroroy of Masbate spanked their respective opponents to secure championship tickets in the Cebu Amateur Football Club’s 11th National Inter-club Football Cup at separate venues yesterday.

Over at PAREF-Springdale in Brgy. Lahug, the Los Amigos booters mercilessly mauled Danao Football Club, 8-0, to earn the right to face host Springdale in the boys 12 final at 2:30 pm today. Springdale advanced after escaping with a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

It's going to be an exciting finale as Los Amigos and Springdale fought to a 1-1 draw during their elimination round encounter.

Aroroy, on the other hand, trounced Queen City United, 3-0, to arrange a title showdown against University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) in the lone girls 17 division at the San Roque Parish field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The USC ladies are the heavy favorites having defeated Aroroy twice although via close decision, 2-1, in the first and 1-0 in the second match.

Today beggining at 9:30 am, the boys 17 semifinals will be played pitting last year's runner-up Abellana National School-Pomeroy against Ormoc and USC-TC opposite Manila Soccer Academy.

Manila Soccer Academy reached the penultimate round after hacking out a 6-2 win over Blessed John.

In the boys 14 semis, ANS will go up against Ormoc, while SHS-Ateneo de Cebu faces a tall order as it takes on defending champion Mandue Technical Institute.

SHS-Ateneo de Cebu is also in the players 10 semifinals along with San Roque Royal United, Danao and QCU. (FREEMAN)
