CEBU, Philippines - The cool and calculating Eric Deen won his fifth club championship last Saturday after pulling past the gritty Jovi Neri, 2 and 1 at the Cebu Country Club.
Deen, winner of the club titles for 1997, '98, '99, and 2004, is considered as one of the most consistent players of the club.
The victory that came after 35 holes in what would have been a 36-hole match was for the 2010 club title. The club title for the year that has passed in played around May of the current year.
Neri, who is also a regular club player for major events like the Philippine Airlines Interclub along with Deen, has the 2001 club title under his belt. He was favored to win the club title this year having finished as second in the qualifying event where Deen was fifth.
The class B title went to Evans Tumaliwan, who slipped past Kiddy Limchao, Jr., 1-up.
Andrew Si also posted a 2 and 1 win over Henry Dy in the battle for the class C title.
Naotsugu Isobe won the class D plum with a 2-up win over Rhoudie Tiu.
The senior's title went to Koichi Horii, who beat Masatsugu Ochiai, 2 and 1.
Anthony Jackson took the super seniors crown earlier last week over Ben Dapat.-(FREEMAN)
