11th Nat'l Inter-Club bootfest on today
CEBU, Philippines - Over 50 teams including six out-of-towners will converge today as the 11th Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) National Inter-Club Football Cup formally kicks off mainly at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Technological Center field in Brgy. Talamban City.
As an added treat for the participants, the members of the celebrated Philippines Azkals are coming over to the Queen City of the South to grace the awarding ceremony on the 29th.
Among the out-of-town entries who will try to outsmart the Cebuanos in the week-long joust include Masbate’s Aroroy Club and Ormoc, which are both fielding in teams in the boys 14 and 17, Iloilo’s West Bridge in the boys 14, San Carlos City’s Los Amigos in the boys 12, Samar in the men’s open division and the Manila Soccer Academy Manila Success Acad in the boys 17 under.
Only one game will be played at USC-TC today featuring Hiroshi Football Club versus host USC at 1:30 pm.
Over at PAREF-Springdale in Brgy. Lahug, San Roque Royal United faces off Canduman at 8 am, while Count Football Club tackles Danao at 4 pm in the other players 10 duel.
Two other matches are scheduled at Springdale pitting Canduman vs. Springdale at 9:30 am and Danao opposite USC-North Campus at 2:30 pm both in the boys 12 category.
The rest of the games will be held at San Roque Football field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue starting off with the 8 am encounter between the USC-North Campus and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in the boys 17.
SJSM/3 Bros will then take on MTI in the boys 14, while Queen City United-A meets its sister-team QCU-B at 3:30 pm in the men’s 40-above. Afterwhich, Hiroshi will go upagainst ERCO also in the men's 40 above.
In the lone girls division duel at San Roque, Queen City United will test the might of USC-TC Girls.
Only three teams are seeing action in the girls bracket but the organizers decided to include them with hopes of encouraging other girls to indulge in football. (FREEMAN)
