Cebuano judokas raring for PNG
CEBU, Philippines - Joaquin Nicolo Fernandez, one of the country's top judokas, will lead Team Cebu City's campaign in the PSC-POC Philippine National Games late this month in Bacolod City.
TCC, however, will miss the services of Joaquin’s older brother, the multi-titled Vicente “Nonoy” Fernandez, as he is said to be devoting his time right now with his schooling.
The Fernandez brothers are both under the University of the Philippines-Dilliman judo squad but always represent their hometown in major competitions they joined.
For the Bacolod joust, TCC is fielding in a total of seven judokas including three Cebuano-Japanese players.
Fernandez will see action in the -60 kgs. class, while Kenji Yahata, a tried and tested judoka, will compete both in the juniors and seniors division under 100 kgs. category.
Also in the team are Kenji’s siblings Eichi and Eiko. Eichi will show his stuff in the same class as Kenji, while flaunt his wares in juniors -70 kgs.division.
The rest of the TCC roster are Alan Antigua (-66kgs), Rey Carriage (-60 kgs.), and Hazel Faye Laude (-48 kgs.) (FREEMAN)
