Running for UP
After months of preparation, this is the big weekend of Run UP High, a project of the University of the Philippines Cebu High School Alumni Association.
I have been visiting the school the past few days to submit the registration forms of runners that I have recruited to join and to get updates on the race, which is open also to non-alumni of the school.
Tomorrow’s race will start at 5:30 a.m. and this will start and finish at the Oblation Square, which is right in front of the administration building.
For the photo buffs, there is also a photo contest initiated by Batch ’86, which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year. The contest is spearheaded by one of my closest friends from the class, Icky Salazar.
If you want to join the run, registration remains open until about 30 minutes or maybe an hour prior to the race. Just hope that there are still singlets available so you will have a remembrance that you’ve been part of Run UP High.
Yesterday afternoon, Julie Itaas, the super hardworking batch representative of class 1984, was busy preparing the raffle prizes for the race.
Their classmate and my former editor of our high school magazine, Rep. Pablo John Garcia will be firing the starting gun, said Julie.
I will also need to be up very early tomorrow to join my fellow members of the board of the alumni association, who have been buzzing around to get things going for the event. I bumped into Teng Angan at the school yesterday and she said that she was still rushing somewhere to do something for the race.
All the effort of course is for the love of our Alma Mater.
See you tomorrow!

A Taichi exhibition is set tomorrow at Parkmall in the Mandaue Reclamation Area.
I was informed about it thru email. This is part of the Administrative Professionals Week celebration.
There is a minimal registration fee of P30. I wasn’t informed of the time though.

The Bukas Loob sa Diyos community is hosting the BLD Bicycle Fun Ride on May 22 starting from Talisay City to the Cebu Business Park and back.
The details of the event were faxed to us by Jess Lucero of JC Bike Shop, who is the chairman of the event.
He said that this is going to be a fun ride where the bikers would be traveling at a speed of between 15 to 20 kilometers per hour with speed cops to lead the way.
There will also be mechanics and a medical team that will travel with the group to ensure the safety of the participants.
This is a fund raising activity for the construction of the Covenant House in Sibonga, Cebu.
Entry fee is pegged at P200 per biker and snacks will be provided to the participants. There will also be raffles in Talisay City where the ride would end.
