Support for Run UP High, which is set on May 1 has snowballed with more alumni of the University of the Philippines Cebu High School and sponsors coming forward as the big day nears.
Rep. Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd District of Cebu Province is one of the major sponsors and his sister, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, is also supporting the event.
Smart Communications is also in as well as M. Lhuillier, Timex, Waterfront Hotels, Simple Likes, Julie’s Bakeshop, iStore, Kinvara, and the alumni, who are going out of their way to recruit participants and to sponsor the event.
One thing that sets the run apart from the others is that this will be for fun and the prizes will be in kind and not cash.
Registration fee is only P200 for the 3-K event, P250 for the 6-K, and P300 for the 12-K. Only the first 1,000 to register will get a singlet, so it is best to register now at either the UP Cebu High School office or at Runnr in Ayala Center Cebu.
Mic-mic Bugash, from batch ’89 and a member of the faculty, said that the singlets will be distributed starting the 26th or Tuesday next week.
I personally have never been involved in any footrace, but I took exception for this one because of the love for the high school, which helped mold me into what I am today.
I hope my fellow alumni would also come forward to support. By the way, this is not exclusive for the UP Cebu High School alumni as the run is open to everyone interested.
There are event those who just plan to walk, who are signing up for the event.
I was also told that batch ’86 will be holding photo contest to be spearheaded by Icky Salazar.

Last Saturday, we had one of the best attended monthly medal events at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
What made it even more interesting was when it was announced during the award rites that one of the future monthly events will be played on two courses – AVGCC and Cebu Country Club.
There was the Ateneo-La Salle Tournament, which used the two courses once, but this has never been done again for several years now.
If this pushes through, then I’m sure it will be a blockbuster. The announcement was made by Oly Dychangco, chairman of Alta Vista, but he only made it after Ramontito Garcia, president of Cebu Country Club, said that he agrees with the plan.
This might happen after The View Invitational, which is Alta Vista’s annual member-guest event set this June 2 to 5.
Registration for The View Invitational is now ongoing so better list up before the tournament slots run out.
