Calling for support

Run UP High, a project of the University of the Philippines Cebu High School Alumni Association will be held on May 1.

I am calling my fellow UP Cebu High School alumni to support this worthwhile project, which aims to raise funds for the alumni scholars.

I had the chance to attend the recognition rites of the school last Thursday morning and definitely the alumni and our friends can do something to help the school and its students.

There will be three distances for the run – 12K, 6K, and 3K. Registration fee is P300 for the 12K, P250 for the 6K, and P200 for the 6K.

There is also a barkada run, where four runners, who will be tied to each other, will compete.

I saw the design of the singlets that will be given to the registrants on the Facebook page of UP Cebu High School.

Those who are not from the school, but would want to do something worthwhile on May 1 are also encouraged to join.

You can register at the school from Mondays to Fridays or at Runnr in Ayala Center Cebu on Fridays to Sundays.

The start/finish line of the race will be the Oblation Square inside the UP Cebu campus. If you haven’t been to UP lately, you should see the new color of the Oblation.

This is also a good time to be with fellow alumni and our former teachers, who promised to be at the start/finish line even if they would not be running.

The April Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club will be held today.

This month’s event also coincides with the birthday of our super hardworking chairman of the monthly medal committee, Engr. Willy T. Go.

Willy has made the monthly tournament more interesting and we are now getting a good number of participants due to the raffle prizes and the entertainment that are being offered.

If you haven’t registered yet, there are a few slots available. Guests are also welcome to play.

Kevin Na made many duffers feel good after the professional golfer scored 16 on the par-4 ninth hole of TPC San Antonio.

The guy hit his first two drives into unplayable positions then his third one landed into the woods.

Playing six from there, he found himself in more trouble and took several more shots before he finally made it to the green in 14 strokes. He two-putted to score 16 and more than that made many lousy golfers like this deadline beater feel like champions.

The score is the worst ever scored on a par-4 hole in a PGA Tour event.
