CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's Franklin Encarnacion, Amiel Aya-ay and Roy Tabotabo and Manila’s John Altiche are the four hopefuls who barged into the 32-man draw of the 4th Cebuana Lhuillier Men’s Open Tennis Championships that will begin today at the Baseline tennis courts.
Encarnacion advanced into the tougher stage of the competition after edging out fellow Cebuano Edwin Bacarisas, 8-3.
Aya-ay escaped past Warren Alvio, 8-6, Roy Tabotabo dismissed Ryan Montalbo in lopsided fashion, 8-2, while Altiche made sure his trip to Cebu is all worth it after kicking out Cebuano Bryan Kintanar, 8-2.
Four other players enjoyed a free pass to the main draw after being given wild cards namely Calvin Canlas, Leo Laping, Mahmmod Amama and Toto Dazo.
Among the stars to watch out for in the main draw of this PHILTA-sanctioned event are Davis Cuppers Johnny Arcilla, Onyok Anasta and reserved player Patrick John Tierro.
Arcilla, who has a Cebuano lineage, is the defending champion in the singles event. He also won the doubles championship last year alongside Tierro. - BANAT NEWS
