CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano Anthony Linn Navarro’s efforts paid off as he qualified for this year’s Southeast Asian Age-Group Swimming Championships in Da Nang City, Vietnam on June 10.
Cebu Blue Marlins (CBM) head coach Rolando Alvarez said he just received an update from the Philippine Aquatics Sports Association (PASA) that Navarro qualified for the said event along with 65 other youngsters spread over different age brackets.
Navarro, a student of Cebu Eastern College, made it to the RP Youth team after making waves in the national tryouts held in Makati City last month all by his lonesome.
Alvarez sent only Navarro as he wants to make it sure that whoever he fields in will perform well in the try-out and not just for plain participation.
Navarro did not let Alvarez down as he hauled three golds through the 400m and 200m individual medley and in the 200m breaststroke plus four silvers in the 50m,100m and 200m backstroke and 100m breast stroke.
In Vietnam, Navarro will compete in the boys 12-under class alongside Mark Rominquit, Jose Mari Arcilla, Marco Calianta, Alnair Guevarra, Jenkins Labao, Baron Ong, Eman Dapat and Allen Felix Miranda. (FREEMAN)
