CEBU, Philippines - The Pajo National High School Lady Vipers survived nerve-wracking battles against two tough squads before qualifying for the third place clash in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League dubbed as “Tournament of Champions” yesterday at the University of St. La Salle (USLS) gym in Bacolod City.
PNHS coached by Fr. Rolando T. Manayon, first had to pass through a five-set thriller against Davao City National High School, 25-22, 17-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-12.
Then they later fended off Central Philippines University in another grueling four-set battle, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16.
The twin victories were courtesy of its first stringers Gretchel Soltones, Marjorie Coloscos, Charlita Auza, Cristy Sucalit, Apple Roiles and Danika Molinas and their reinforcement in Julaiza Mae Larada of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).
They will once again clash with CPU for the battle for third place today while the championship match will feature the fight between the reigning champions, USLS-Bacolod against Hope Christian School.
“We got lucky that we were able to still have the chance to land in the third spot after we fended off CPU. I just hope that my players will give their very best for this opportunity, at least we could still have something when we go back to Cebu,” said Fr. Manayon. (FREEMAN)
