CEBU, Philippines - Reigning champion Subangdaku and Centro stayed unbeaten with identical standings of 3-0 win-loss slates in the on-going elimination round of the 4th Mandaue City Mayor’s Cup volleyball tournament the other night at City Hall grounds.
The Dino Aribal-mentored Subangdaku overpowered Looc in straight sets, 25-18, 25-21, behind the powerful attacks of its first stringers former volleyball varsity stalwarts Roderick Arenasa, Edward Carlo Tecson, Geroel Aragones, Mamerto Dumaog, Aldin Potot, and Ryan Fuentes.
Centro, on the other hand, had to pass through a three-set thriller before claiming the triumph against former champion Maguikay.
Maguikay took the first set via 25-23 win. However, the gritty Centro spikers bounced back in the second canto, 25-21, to forge a rubber match.
In the decider, Centro prevailed via a close 25-22 decision.

Subangdaku and Centro will clash on Monday in a must-see battle to determine the top team in the over-all rankings.
In the distaff side, Maguikay did not suffer the same fate as their male counterparts when they thrashed Tabok in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, behind Melanie Espinosa, Mary Joy Cortes, and Novelyn and Maria Kristina Espina.
In the other women’s action, Umapad trounced Ibabao in dominating fashion, 25-17, 25-16, behind the witty attacks spearheaded by the inaugural University Students beach volley national champion Apple Eve Saraum of the University of Southern Philippines, Juriza Arofo, Florda Paniel, Rochel Rica, and Leanah Gillera.
