Azkals in Ormoc

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

The fans of the Philippine Azkals from the Visayas will have a very good reason to head to Ormoc City for the Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival as the team is set to be joining the festivities.

The TLBF opens tomorrow and will run until Sunday featuring not only the events for the mountain, road and BMX bikers, but also a football, Ultimate Frisbee and shooting competitions.

This is also an event that cycling aficionados should not miss as the 3rd Filbike—Bicycle and Outdoor Expo will also be held in Ormoc City during the weekend.

I almost forgot, also scheduled in the Pineapple Trail Run, which is an off-road race.

Ormoc City is indeed the place to be starting tomorrow until the weekend.

Another major sporting event is also set in Cebu this school break, the 11th National Interclub Football Cup, which is organized by the Cebu Amateur Football Club a.k.a. Queen City Football Club.

The event is set on May 21 to 29, but I’m sure this early you would want to get a team together for this event, which will be held at the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus field, the San Roque Parish field in Mandaue City, and the PAREF-Springdale field.

Competitions will be for the men’s open, 38 and above (born 1972 or earlier), boys and girls 17 (born 1993), boys and girls 14 (born 1996), and boys 12 (born 1998), which will all have an 11-a-side format.

The Players 10 category, which allows teams with a mixture of boys and girls born not earlier than 2000, will have a 9-a-side format.

This should be a good event to measure how your team’s “summer training” has gone and also, because there will be squads from other parts of the country that would be participating.

This is also a good venue for sponsors to consider in promoting their products and services.

I would like to congratulate the re-elected members of the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club board of directors, who got a fresh mandate during last Monday’s general membership meeting.

The board is still composed of Renato ‘Oly’ Dychangco, Jr., Andrew Aznar, Exequiel ‘Excy’ Robles, Ramon U. Sebastian, Atty. Mat Jo, Richard Christopher ‘Ricky’ Aznar, and Vicente ‘Inting’ Go.

I heard that a thanksgiving tournament will be held soon that will also include those who will be appointed to sit in the various committees of the club.

That’s something I really and looking forward to.

MILESTONES: Belated birthday greetings to my cousin Harlie Kenn A. Quiñones, who turned a year odler last Sunday.

The same goes to those who celebrated last Monday like our former F-1 columnist and my cousin Anton Pages, Babbu Wenceslao, Sharon Yap-Jakosalem, Gie Martinez, and Lynn Trixy Villegas-Mendoza.

More belated greetings go to yesterday’s birthday celebrators Jyra Wong, Mary Daisy Joy Dellosa-Tano, and Mary Grace Segismar.

Today’s greetings go to one of my favorite teachers from grade school, Madame Nimfa Alo and to our president of the UP High School Cebu Alumni Association Atty. Mark Tolentino.

More power to all of you!
