Underdogs prevail in MLKP-CBA caging
CEBU, Philippines - The underdogs prevailed as the previously winless Mandaue-Cebu Landmasters and Talisay City downed their stronger rivals in the 1st M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Basketball Association (MLKP-CBA) season last Sunday at the USC-Main gym.
The Landmasters shocked the Asian College of Technology (ACT) Cyber Knights, 95-87, behind the heroics of pint-sized guard Frangel Omolon who topscored with 22 points, while Talisay scored an 85-75 upset over Hotel Fortuna.
It was the first victory of the Landmasters in four games, thanks to the Jared Kane Abatayo-inspired rally in the fourth period.
Abatayo finished with 16 points in a tie with Franklin Nailon, while Marvin Tundag chipped in 13 markers.
Alano Caputolan and John Villaver had 17 points each for the Cyber Knights, while Ronaldo Bucao and Milfred Sampelo added 15 and 13 points, respectively, in a losing effort.
Talisay, on the other hand, outscored Hotel Fortuna in the second half to snap out of its three-game losing skid. (FREEMAN)
