CEBU, Philippines - Cebuana football and basketball players get a chance to be part of the national team as they are invited for a try-out starting with the PHL girls football under-18 team at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue today.
The try out in girls football will be handled by coach Letecia Buda-Bautista.
The team that will be formed will be sent to an international battle under the AFC.
While the girls are trying out today, a bunch of young Cebuanos also hope to be part of the RP Under-13 in San Carlos City through the Visayas Regional Football festival.
Cebuano coach Oliver Colina, who is handling the RP-Under 13 squad, initially saw 22 potential players to be part of the PHL pool from the Mindanao area.
After the selection in San Carlos City, Colina will go to Luzon to scout for more talents.
On the other hand, Cebuana basketball players born January of 1995 and later are invited in to join the try-out for the Hijas Filipinas under-16 division national team on April 2 and 3 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
For those who can’t go to Manila though, coach Nomar Isla mulls on holding a try-out here if they could get a sponsor for it.
The selected players will represent the country in the 2nd FIBA-Asia Under-16 Championships for Women this October in Urumqi, China.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
