ALA Promotions signs up 2 fighters

- Lemuel P. Maglinte -

CEBU, Philippines -  ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer envisions to put the Philippines in the map with the most number of world champions.

And for this goal to be accomplished, the country’s premier boxing outfit signed two promising boxers that will add to the elite list of Filipino world title hopefuls.

During a press conference yesterday at Diamond Suites and Residences, ALA Promotions presented their new additions in world-rated minimumweight prospect Rommel “Little Assassin” Asenjo (20-2, 16KOs) and undefeated featherweight Lorenzo “Thunder Volt” Villanueva (19-0, 18KOs).

Asenjo and Villanueva, who is also managed by boxing patron Manny Piñol, signed a three-year contract that guarantees them quality fights under the ALA banner.

“I believe that Philippines have this paramount level of boxing talent and that’s why we are here to discover new prospects,” said Aldeguer. “This is not only good for ALA but also to Philippine boxing.”

The 20-year-old Asenjo is scheduled to vie for the interim WBO minimumweight title against Raul Garcia on April 30 in Mexico City.

If Asenjo will emerge victorious, reigning WBO minimumweight titlist Donnie Nietes will relinquish his belt to campaign in light flyweight division thus the Pigcawayan, North Cotabato native will be automatically hailed as the regular champion.

“Daku gyud kog pasalamat sa ALA Promotions ug ako gyud buhaton ang tanan karong April 30 para madala nako ang bakus dinhi sa atong nasud,” said Asenjo.

For his part, the hard-hitting Villanueva will make his maiden appearance under the wings of ALA this April 9 in the undercard of the “Pinoy Pride 5: Battle of Champions” that will be topbilled by Nietes against Mexican Armando Vasquez.

Villanueva will try to prove his worth when he faces Tanzanian slugger Ramadhani Shauri for the WBO oriental featherweight championship.

Also to be featured in the slambang card that will be held at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City is WBO Youth AsPac welterweight champion Jason Pagara, who will put his crown on the line against Tanzanian Deo Njiku.

Roli Gasca, on the other hand, will square off against Ngaotawan Sithsaithong of Thailand, while hometown idol Arthur Villanueva will slug it out with Mark Anthony Geraldo of Cagayan De Oro. (FREEMAN NEWS)
