CEBU, Philippines - Training partners Mary Joy Tabal and Philip Duenas quickly made an impression in their return to the local scene as they dominated the Run For Kids With Cancer yesterday at the Asiatown IT Park in Brgy. Apas, this city.
Tabal, a student of Southwestern University, ruled the women’s 12-kilometer battle with a time of 50 minutes and 35.49 seconds.
Former road running queen Christy Sevilleno-Tutor came in second in 59:19.36, while Madelyn Carter settled third with a 59:51.15 clocking.
Duenas, Tabal’s trainor, stole part of the show by taking the men’s 12K title with a 43:11.42 clocking. Ian Bernido copped the second place honors in 44:34.93 as Dandy Maturan placed third in 45:44.83.
Jess Gonzaga claimed the men’s 6K crown in 20:20.99 followed by Reprinel Banzon (20:21.03) and Daniel Cardenas (27:31.47).
In the distaff side, Lynle Cardenas reigned supreme with the time of 28:18.33. The next two spots were occupied by Maria Victoria Bauman (38:09.71) and Elsa Zetz (39:23.60).
The 3K run saw Roland and Retchen Bantiancila topping their respective classes. Roland came out the fastest in the men’s division with an 11:26.70 clocking, edging out Ruth Banzon (12:35.15) and Ivan Gusto ( 13:22.55), while Retchen ruled the girls side in 13:34.28 followed by Princess Villapaz (14:52.01) and Mary Rose Montebon (19:31.70).
Kids also had fun as they competed against other in a 600m run.
The top three in the boys class were Ronald Labiaga, Alexis Ylanan and Joseph Lauron, while the distaff side had Noemi Orcullo, Celina Perez and Dorothy Gallardo.
Presented by Omega Pro, Casino Ethyl Alcohol, Bioderm, and Lecit-E along with Zip, Pepsi and Gatorade, the event was for the benefit of Kythe Foundation. (FREEMAN)
