Fernandez bags gold in La Salle judo contest

CEBU, Philippines - He may not be feeling very well but Cebuano Joaquin Fernandez still managed to make a golden finish in the 2011 De la Salle Judo Invitational in Manila the other day.

Joaquin, this year’s lone awardee for judo in the 29th SAC-SMB All-Cebu Sports Awards, had tonsillitis resulting to fever but decided to push through his bid in the event and won the -55 kilograms open belt division gold.

Joaquin, who is now with the University of the Philippines-Dilliman, went against his father’s advise to just take a rest and only compete when he fully recovers.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
