Almario, Siguan shine in CCC Thanksgiving tourney

- NLQ -

CEBU, Philippines - Carl Almario and Ernesto ‘Dodong’ Siguan were the top winners of the Cebu Country Club Thanksgiving Tournament last weekend, but the show was stolen by 14-year-old Gen Nagai.

Nagai, who was the reserve player of the club during the recent 64th Philippine Airlines Interclub in Cagayan de Oro City and Bukidnon, aced the par-3 hole number 15 to win the Suzuki Celerio, which would have been raffled off to the participants if it was not won.

Nagai used a pitching wedge to nail the ace with his Srixon No. 04 ball.

Almario had the lowest gross of the tournament using the Stableford Scoring System by shooting five-under-par 41 points.

Siguan fired a net ten-under-par 45 points to win the lowest net honors of the two-day, 18-hole event.

Jovi Neri topped class A with his net score of 43 points off a gross three-under-par 39. He won it via the countback over PAL Interclub team captain Ramontito Garcia, who also had a net 43 off a gross four-under-par 40. Second runner-up was Anton Florendo with a net score of 41 edging Jufil Sato in the countback.

The class B plum went to Shigeo Saito with a net score of 45 points edging Jude Cimafranca in the countback. Cimafranca settled for the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Jack Huang with a net score of 44 points.

Raymond Tio won the class C title with a net score of 44 edging Alfredo Tan in the countback. Tan took the first runner-up honors while second runner-up with 42 points was Vic Cajita, who beat Hector Almario, Ramon Escario, and Ernesto Uy in the countback.

Ruben Almendras topped the seniors’ category with a net score of 44 points. First runner-up was Francis Zosa with 42 while Miguel ‘Mike’ Mancao was second runner-up also with a net score of 42. (FREEMAN)
